Flip Top Box Tutorial now available!
Posted on June 29th, 2009 @ 10:51 am

Hi – The tutorial for my flip top box is now ready!  It is 24 pages in length will lots of photos and step-by-step directions for making the boxes and embellishing it to match the one below.  I used the Tall Tales DSP and the Animal Stories stamp set from the new catalog that lauches today!

Remember that dimensions for both size boxes are included in the tutorial.  The ones pictured here, here and here are all the larger size that will fit 12 cards and envelopes.  (more, if they are flat cards!)  I also have a version that is skinnier and holds 6-8 cards and envelopes.  It is made with two sheets of 8½x11 cardstock.   The sample in the tutorial of the smaller box is made from Pumpkin Pie cardstock and the Razzleberry Lemonade DSP.  I like to make measuring easy, so the directions will be easy to follow and you’ll be able to make lots and lots of them without getting bogged down in little tick marks on a ruler! :)   I know you’ll be happy with it!  To order, just click the “Buy Now” button below, and I will email you a link to download it.  I would love to see your versions of it!

Thanks,

Third flip top box
Posted on June 29th, 2009 @ 10:11 am

Hi – Here’s another version of my box.  I had a lot of gifts I needed for the end of the year!  This one is a bit more my style – love the brighter colors and big flower.  I’m working on the tutorial and will post a button for it soon to preorder.  Hope to have the whole thing ready by the 1st at the latest!  Thanks for stopping by -

Another flip top box
Posted on June 28th, 2009 @ 12:54 am

Hi – Thanks for all the kind comments about my box yesterday!  I got a few emails about where I got the template and to answer that, I made it up myself.  I had a stack of cards I wanted a box for so I created one out of two regular pieces of cardstock – but it was too skinny to hold 12 cards so I made a fatter one!  I’m sure there are similar boxes out there, but I wanted one that was simple and had straight-forward measurements.  I don’t like measuring 3/8ths or 7/8ths so I tend to stick with easier numbers and use as much of the cardstock as I can…I get stingy with my paper! :]  So I’ll work on a tutorial for those that are interested.  In the meantime, here’s another one I did.  Also uses the Walk in the Park DSP.  It’s not my favorite – I like the other one better!  Maybe you’ll like it better than I do!  Thanks for stopping by -

Flip top card box
Posted on June 26th, 2009 @ 11:01 pm

Hi – Tonight’s post is a flip top box I made a while back to hold cards.  I wanted a box to hold about 12 cards but I didn’t want the lid to be hard to line up and put back on each time you open the box – So this is what I came up with.  Kind of reminds me of a crayon box with the hinged lid.   I made it out of one 12×12 sheet and one 8½x11 sheet of cardstock.  Then I wrapped it in the Walk in the Park DSP.  The two sides are rounded so they swing back nicely and the bottom corner doesn’t stick out.  The label is from the Styled Vanilla Hodgepodge Hardware kit.  I used So Saffron brads to attach it though and stuck three Little Leaves behind it.  I like the way it turned out! :]  Hope you like it too!  Thanks for stopping by -

Flip Floppin’ towards summer!
Posted on June 25th, 2009 @ 6:14 pm

Hi – We’re still looking for summer around here…not in sight today.  I’m hoping this summery card will coax the sun out a bit! :]  I’ve used Bashful Blue, Pumpkin Pie and So Saffron inks and cardstock.  The stamp set is Life’s a Breeze.  To get the orange accents on the “sun fun” stamp, I first inked the stamp with Bashful Blue and then used a Pumpkin Pie marker to go over those spots before stamping it on Whisper White.  I hope you like it!  Thanks for stopping by -

4th of July Luminaries
Posted on June 24th, 2009 @ 11:39 am

Hi – Thought it was time to post something other than a card! :]  Not that I get tired of making them though…  These are luminaries made from vellum cardstock with those little battery powered tealights under them.  Regular vellum is not really stiff enough so the vellum cardstock is best.  The stars are embossed with stamp images from Circle Circus and then punched with SU!’s two star punches.  If you want more details than that, email me and I’d be glad to tell you!  Hope you like them!  They make a nice centerpiece for a 4th of July picnic! Almost In and Almost Out Colors!
Posted on June 22nd, 2009 @ 7:05 pm

Hi – Back to stamping after a busy weekend and the first official day of no school!  Now if only the sun would shine again…. Anywhooo, I thought I’d mix up some current In Colors and soon-to-be In Colors and make a card tonight.  I’ve used Pink Pirouette and Baja Breeze and added Soft Suede.  The stamp set is Friends 24/7 and I actually used just that set!

The ribbon is also Soft Suede  – it’s polka dotted on the opposite side but I didn’t think the dots went with the look of this card so I tied it on backwards.  Hope you like it! Thanks for stopping by -

PS – I think I need to retake the picture of this card…the colors don’t look true.  I’ll update tomorrow with a new photo!  Picture Edited – looks better now! :]

Bella Rose Quilted card set
Posted on June 19th, 2009 @ 12:49 am

Hi – We are finally at the end of the school year and I’ve been working on a few teacher gifts.  My younger son’s teacher is a wonderful quilter and so I thought I’d try making a set of cards for her that look (somewhat!) like little quilts.  I used the Bella Rose DSP and Kiwi Kiss or Riding Hood Red cardstock for the bases.

I’m sure there are other ways to do this, but here’s what I did.  I cut 6 pieces of white cardstock at 4 ¼ x 5 ½.  Then I decided on my pattern for each quilt.  After I cut the pieces (or punched them for the squares pattern), I placed them on the white cardstock like I wanted them.  Some of the pieces went off the edge of the white piece but that’s ok.  Then I sandwiched another white piece on top, lifted the ’sandwich’ and flipped it over.  Take the now top piece off and your pattern pieces will be upside-down on that second white piece.  I put Snail on the first white piece – not too much or it makes your sewing needle sticky! Then carefully place the white piece back on the pattern pieces.  Flip it back over and the pieces should stick.  Trim around the edges to square it off again.  Sew in a zig-zag over all the lines where two pieces meet.  Then I trimmed each piece down to 4 x 5 ¼ and adhered it to my base.  I kept the greeting and embellishments pretty simple because the cards were already kinda busy!  You can click on each card to make it bigger and easier to see.  Hope you like them! Cupcake anyone?!
Posted on June 18th, 2009 @ 12:50 am

Hi – Still no pink card but at least this one’s not orange!  It’s Night of Navy, River Rock and Baja Breeze.  The designer paper is from the Walk in the Park pack.  The cupcake and the sentiment come from the Party Hearty set.

I was aiming for a “guy card” with the colors and lack of frilly stuff.  The ribbon is not SU! but it matched the River Rock piece so well that I had to use it.  To get the ribbon to stay in place and wrap around the card, I use the little slot punch on the folded edge of the base and just take a wee bite out of the fold – just enough to feed the ribbon through.  That’s the tip of the day in case you were wondering how to do that! I put a piece of white cardstock on the inside to make it easier to see your writing and added the little gift stamp in the corner.

Can Rich Razzleberry be simple?
Posted on June 17th, 2009 @ 11:42 am

Hi – Question of the day…if the cardstock’s name is “Rich Razzleberry,” can you make a simple card with it or will it be rich and razzle-dazzle-ish?!  :]  Well this card is pretty simple in design.  It’s a lot like the Soft Suede card from two posts ago.  I changed the colors and the sentiment and shifted things around a bit.  Thanks for stopping by -
